The beauty industry is the second biggest producer of waste, just under the fashion industry, producing 877 pounds of waste every minute! We decided we need to do our part to help change that and combat climate change. Our salon cleans, and sorts all our waste, then sends it off to be recycled by Green Circle. W86 is now carbon neutral which means your appointment is too!
Over 42,000 pounds of excess hair color, lightener and toner is thrown away every day. When rinsed down the drain, it can find it’s way back into our drinking water and soil. At Green Circle the color is separated into water and oil. The water is cleaned and returned back into our water systems, the oil is blended into fuel.
63,000 pounds of hair gets thrown away every day. Every garbage bag of hair produces greenhouse gases as it tries to break down, which contributes to climate change. Green Circle turns the hair into bio-composite plastic to make new products like recycling bins.
Over 110,000 pounds of used metal, including hair foils, is thrown away every day in salons in North America. That’s over half the weight of a commercial airplane. The metal is melted down into aluminum sheets or bars and used to make new products like car parts and bicycles
Single use items such as as gloves, wax strips, nail files, cotton swaps etc, are used in a waste-to-energy process to create clean renewable energy, the left over ash is then used as a filler in asphalt.
The plastic is cleaned, ground into small pieces and then used to make new products like new shampoo bottles.
Paper is sorted, broken down into paper pulp and then used to make new products or cellulose insulation.
